“The average food item on a U.S. grocery shelf has traveled farther than most families go on their annual vacations.”

Barbara Kingsolver

"The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison."

Ann Wigmore

If you have a connection with the farm, if you’ve actually walked on the soil of the farm, it nourishes your soul.

Nigel Walker

When it becomes a revolutionary act to eat real food, we are in trouble.

Mark Hyman

"Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independent, the most virtuous, and they are tied to their country and wedded to it's liberty and interests by the most lasting bands."

About Us

Chimney Creek Farm is a small family farm of 20 acres located in Grattan Township, north east Kent County. We are a short 30 minute drive (20 miles) from downtown Grand Rapids.

We haven't been farmers all our lives. Deane has been a home builder and carpenter for over 30 years and Linda a homemaker (and cook extraordinaire) for all of her adult life. But life takes some strange turns and with the recent recession we decided that it was time for a change and to follow a long held dream.

We've owned this land for almost 30 years and have had huge gardens, horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and raised four wonderful children. We decided that it was now or never and to expand on our passion for growing things. Thus was born Chimney Creek Farm in 2010.

In 2014 our youngest daughter, Tory, and her family moved back to the area. She is "crunchie" as she likes to say and is a perfect fit with the CSA. She is our social networking guru - Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. She also lends her organizations skills, a strong work ethic, and a love for all living things to help the farm and the CSA to grow. She is involved in all areas of the farm and we are grateful she is following her passion.

Our Farming Practices

We are committed to natural and sustainable farming methods. We strive to be as self sufficient as possible and to re-use and recycle at every opportunity. Our farm looks like a place your great grandparents might have seen back in the day.

We are concerned with the health of our soil, the health of the food we produce, and the health of our CSA members. We bring you locally grown food from farmers you can put a face to and trust. Direct from our farm to your family.

Vegetables are grown as naturally as we know how. That means we don't use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. We do use natural soil amendments, cover crops, compost, and manure to fertilize.  We occasionally use (only when absolutely required) some natural products (organically certified) to treat diseases and insects.

We plant OP (open pollinated) and heirloom seed varieties when ever possible so that we can save seeds ourselves. We never plant GMO (genetically modified) seed varieties.

Michigan Farmers Pledge

We believe in and follow the Michigan Farmers Pledge. It is a comprehesive guideline that encompases many of the ideas and ethics we hold dear. You can read more about it here: Michigan Farmers Pledge.
